Playwrights Horizons has always been a favorite theater destination for us so when a friend suggested we list this… well. Our friend admired this work for its boldness and fresh perspective. Sanaz Toossi’s Wish You Were Here closes June 5th, but I am assured it’s worth squeezing into your theater schedule. The subject is Iran during the revolution and the stars are all women facing the upheavals of 1978.
More in all female productions? The Red Bull Theater presents Mac Beth in a virtual streaming format. It is adapted and directed by Erica Schmidt and ran Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre for limited engagement in the spring of 2019. Streaming ends this Sunday May 29th.
Speaking of haunts… The Classic Stage Company is presenting a ghost story through July 9th. Snow in Midsummer by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig, directed by Zi Alikhan is adapted from a classical Chinese drama. It’s a tale of revenge, justice and ecological bad deeds.
At Urban Stages, running from June 5th through 30th, is Oren Safdie’s Gratitude. The 75 minute MainLine Theatre production is directed by Maria Mileaf. Gratitude explores how a teen crush evolves into a life-changing moment for three coming of age high-schoolers.
You may think you know Tennessee Williams but it’s likely you’ve only scratched the surface. Oh, sure A Glass Menagerie is wondrous and strange. A Streetcare Named Desire is passionate and tumultuous. Out of the Box Theatre Company introduces us to less familiar works in Five by Tenn. This program of 5 one-act plays is directed by Ward Nixon. It is presented over ten days beginning June 9th.
